Big update for anyone planning to study in the UK: the Graduate Route, the UK's post-study work visa, will be reduced from 24 months to 18 months for bachelor's and master's graduates, for visa applications made on or after 1 January 2027.
This route lets international students stay after their course to work or look for work without needing a sponsor straight away. A shorter window means less time to find the right job and switch to a Skilled Worker visa.
What changes for Indian students
- Start your job search from the first term of your course, not after graduation.
- Pick universities and cities with strong graduate employment records.
- Build your CV, network and internships early, not in your final term.
Applications made on or before 31 December 2026 still get 2 years. PhD graduates continue to get 3 years.
Is the UK still worth it?
Yes, for the right student. The UK still offers one-year master's degrees and a post-study work route without a job offer. The difference is that planning matters more: your course, city and career plan should work together from day one.
If you are applying for a 2027 intake, we can help you choose courses and cities that give you the best chance of turning the Graduate Route into a job.
